Welcome

Welcome to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta Social Justice Network page. While it is true that a single person, working one on one, can have an important impact in the arena of social justice work, the empowerment of group action raises more voices to more ears, so that those who might not act alone will be willing to join with others to create change. The UUCA Social Justice Network seeks to provide a forum for discussion and collaboration. Members and friends of the UU Church of Augusta are invited to join our network to help build a better world. Once you have joined, please select the group or groups in which you are interested in participating. Join a discussion or create your own.
We are recruiting members to join the Social Justice Council Leadership Team. Let Gayla know if you are interested in serving.

The Dynamics of Change and Fear

Carly Fiorina, former HP CEO, was the featured speaker for Stanford's Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders Lecture May 2, 2008. This is a short snippet from her lecture that I found appropriate to remember as we work to make changes in the way we operate as a church and as a social justice council.…

Planning for future SJ activities

(1). I agree with your comment I have heard that Green Sanctuary program should be the whole Social Justice Council project not just EJ.

(2) I would offer we need to get some Committee Calendars put together and then consilifated so all of the members of SJ Council can we see what Committees have planned plan and see if we have any significant overlap. I have no idea what is coming up in the near and not so near future this year for the remained of this year

Justice Sunday - Sunday, March 29, 2009

In 2009, congregations can choose to focus their Justice Sunday action, education, and worship on any of UUSC's four program areas: Civil Liberties, Economic Justice, Environmental Justice, or Rights in Humanitarian Crises. Or they can incorporate all four areas into their celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We will provide resources, inspiring stories,… Continue

Building Community

I found this quote in the Effective Congregational Committees Handbook put out by the UUA and thought I'd share it. It also seems to fit with Larry's comment on the Mission Statement forum.

"Paying attention to one another and good listening are not just helpful for the process of getting the work done but also crucial in allowing people to feel that they have been heard and that their work and contributions are appreciated. Committees have tasks to take care of, and committee… Continue
